Adoption Information

We require potential adopters to

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Fill out an application form
  • Submit to a home visit prior to adoption
  • Provide adequate written proof of permission by landlord to house a pet if renting a house or apartment

No dog will be adopted out to a home that does not have a secure area, preferably a crate (locking a dog in a room is not acceptable and is a recipe for disaster), for the dog to be in when the adopters are not at home.  A newly adopted dog does not understand why he is in your home.  Until he learns to trust you, and understands that your home is his, there is a strong possibility that he will try to get free and run back to the shelter which he knows as his home.

Adopters are responsible for having their dogs vaccinated against rabies as well as licensing their pet in their municipality.

Southside SPCA is a private facility and reserves the right to deny an adoption to anyone it feels does not meet adoption requirements.
